UNIT 15

COULD AND BE ABLE TO

Để nói về khả năng hoặc cơ hội 1 cách chung chung trong quá khứ, chúng ta dùng could. Hoặc có thể dùngwas / were able tođể thay thế ( ít dùng ).

Ex: I could / was able to climb any tree in my garden when I was a boy.

Ex: In those days we had a car, so we could / were able to travel very easily.

Khi nói rằng khả năng hoặc cơ hội đó dẫn đến một hành động cụ thể, sự việc thật sự xảy ra, hoặc trong 1 tình huống đặc biệt, chúng ta dùng was / were able to ( không dùng could )

Ex: He ran very fast and was able tocatch the finish first.

Ex: The drivers were able to stop before they crashed each other.

Ex: Alf plays tennis well but Jack was able to beat Alf in a game of tennis yesterday.

Tuy nhiên, chúng ta thường dùng could trong câu phủ định và câu hỏi, với những động từ chỉ nhận thức, cảm giác feel, hear, see, smell, taste, believe, decide, remember, understand…, sau những cụm từ the only thing / place / time, all ( the only thing ) va với các từ almost, hardly, just, nearly, only.

Ex: The store was closed, so he couldn’t / wasn’t able to buy things.

Ex: I couldremember the man whose motorbike hit against the boy and ran away.

Be able to dược dùng thay cho cancould trong cấu trúc to-inf, -ing form, perfect tenses,

hoặc sau trợ động từ khiếm khuyết.

Ex: They are very lucky tobe able to stay in the comfortable villa.

Ex: It was awful, not being able to see you for so long.

Ex: We maybe able tomove to live in another city.

Ex: I could havebeen able to win the game if I had paid more attention.

TAG QUESTIONS

Trước khẳng định, sau phủ định và ngược lại

Ex:

Peter helped you, didn’t he?

He isn’t here now, is he?

You have been there for a long time, haven’t you?

You are a good singer,

aren’t you?

You didn’t go to work yesterday,

did you?

You have been to London,

haven’t you?

She is from England,

isn’t she?

They aren’t very nice,

are they?

She doesn’tlike it here,

does she?

You can sing,

can’t you?

They shouldn’t do that,

should they?

He eats meat,

doesn’t he?

He had a bath,

didn’t he?

Nothing happened,

did it?

Một số dạng đặc biệt của câu hỏi đuôi:

a.Trong lối nói thông thường, câu hỏi đuôi của I amaren’t I?

Ex: I’m late, aren’t I ?

Ex: I am supposed to be here, am I not?

b.Sau câu mệnh lệnh, won’t you dùng để diễn đạt lời mời; will / would / can / can’t / could you? thường được dùng để yêu cầu.

Ex: Do sit down, won’t you? ( mời )

Ex: Give me a hand, will you? ( yêu cầu )

c.Sau let’s chúng ta dùng shall we?

Ex: Let’s go to the cinema, shall we?

d.Đại từ it được dùng trong câu hỏi đuôi thay cho this, that, everything, not thing

Ex: That isn’t her boyfriend, is it?

Ex: Everything has been advancing, hasn’t it?

e.Đại từthey được dùng trong câu hỏi đuôi thay cho these, those, everyone, everybody,someone, somebody, anyone, anybody, no one, nobody, none, neither…

Ex: Everyone finished the test well, didn’t they?

f.Với câu trần thuật dùng there + be, câu hỏi đuôi sẽ dùng there.

Ex: There is a good film on TV tonight, isn’t there?

g.Những câu trần thuật khẳng định có những từ mang nghĩa phủ định như barely, hardly, hardlyever, little, neither, never, no, no one, nobody, none, nothing, scarcely, seldom có câu hỏi đuôi khẳng định.

Ex: There’s nothing to eat, is there?

Câu trả Yes nghĩa là câu trần thuật khẳng định đúng, còn No nghĩa là câu trần thuật phủ định

đúng.

Ex: Your mother made this cake, didn’t she?

Yes, she did. ( She made the cake.) (Vâng, đúng thế.)

No, she didn’t. ( She didn’t make the cake.) (Không, không phải.)

Ex: Mr Nam hasn’t got a car, has he?

No. ( He hasn’t got a car.) (Đúng)

Yes. ( He has a car.) ( Không phải, anh ấy có 1chiếc xe.)

I am right, aren’t I?

aren’t I (not amn’t I)

I’m not right, am i?

You have to go, don’t you?

You (do) have to go…

I have been answering, haven’t I?

use first auxiliary

Nothing came in the post, did it?

Treat statements with nothing, nobody etc like negative statements

Nothing, everything, nothing, something will happen, won’t it?

Use it

Anybody, anyone, everybody, everyone, nobody, no one, somebody, someone will come, won’t they?

Use they

Let’s go, shall we?

Let me use your phone, will you?

Let me help you, may i?

let’s = let us

Let me/him…, will (xin phep)

Let help- may (de nghi giup)

He’d better do it, hadn’t he?

He had better (no auxiliary)

He has never been in LD, has he?

Never, rarely, no, hardly: affirmative in tags

Don’t do that, will you?

Take your seat, won’t you?

“Will” used in imperative

“Won’t” used in invitation

I wish to study Eng, may I?

Wish-may

One can be one’s master, can’t you/one

One-you/one

they must study hard, needn’t they?

you mustn’t come late, must you?

He must be a very intelligent student, isn’t he

He must have been out, hasn’t he?

Must_needn’t (su can thiet)

Must- mustn’t (su cam doan)

Must be- isn’t (su phong doan o hien tai)

Must have done- haven’t /hasn’t ( su phong doan trong qua khu)

What a beautiful dress, isn’t it?

What a stupid boy, isn’t he?

How intelligent you are, aren’t you?

Am, is, are

I think he will come here, won’t he?

I don’t believe Mary can do it, can she?

I think, believe, suppose, figure, assume, fancy, imagine, expect, seem, feel, reckon + S V O, chia theo S V O ( chu y not)

She think he will come, doesn’t she?

She, he, it, we, they… as usual

It seem that you are right, aren’t you?

  1. Chào chủ nhà Elvie Yuen, mình mừng quá khi vào đọc mấy cái tóm tắt ngữ pháp tiếng A của em, cái này tổng hợp cực hay, mình đã copy về để cho chuẩn bị cho con gái đang học cấp 3. Cho mình hỏi các phần ngữ pháp E lớp 11 unit trước #9 đâu mình tìm kg ra, cho đg link lại với nhé.
